Dr. Sriram Vaidyanathan, a postdoctoral scholar at the Porteus lab at Stanford University, presents results from CFRI-funded research on identifying biomaterials that enable the transplantation of gene corrected airway stem cells to treat CF. He presents findings from experiments transplanting upper airway basal stem cells into immunocompromised mice using fibrinogen-based scaffolds. Dr. Christine Hachem, Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Saint Louis University, presents an overview on GI cancers with cystic fibrosis. With improvements in therapies for CF, there has been an increase in GI cancers in people with CF, the most common of which is colorectal cancer. Dr. Hachem details the epidemiology, etiology and risk factors for GI cancers in CF, as well as current screening recommendations.
